FANTASTIC WOODLAND TREKKING

Prices and News!!

Woodland Trekking:
Total Beginners Welcome
We have a 14 stone (89kg) weight limit

Prices as of 25th March 2024

1 Hour         -  £55 per person (Any Ability from Beginners to Advanced. Children 7 years +)

1.5 Hour     -  £85 per person (Any Ability from Beginners to Advanced. Children 12 years+ & NO lead-reins)

1 Hour PRIVATE - £150 per person. (Any Ability. Just yourself, your loved ones and a member of staff)

All of our rides are suitable for total beginners and nervous riders, through to advanced riders.

The 1 hour ride is suitable for any ability, including total beginners. These are a mixed ability option and can offer walking and gentle trotting for less experienced riders and some canters for advanced riders. Please note young children are likely to be on a leading rein regardless of their previous experience. We are not comfortable sending small children into the forest, on a pony they are not familiar with.

The 1.5 hour is essentially just an extension of our 1 hour ride with the exception of NO lead-reins, so children must be over 12 years old and happy to ride a quiet pony independently.

We also offer 1 hour canter rides for advanced riders only. You may be required to go on a mixed ability hack before we allow you onto this canter ride. We do not allow children under the age of 12 onto the advanced canter rides.

All bookings have a 48 hour cancellation policy. This must be done by telephone, before Midday 2 days prior to your booking. Texts are not monitored. A full refund is provided for bookings providing 48 hours notice. Less than 48 hours notice will forfeit your payment.

If you have any questions please do call us for more information! We can answer any queries, no question is too silly! We can advise on which ride will suit you, what to wear and how to find us! If we do not answer we may be mounting a ride, but we always return every missed call! Please call 07904902188 for all booking enquiries. We will need each persons height and weight and you will need to pay in full over the telephone to secure your booking.

RDA - Riding for the Disabled:

The Riding School and its staff are not RDA qualified instructors and therefore, although we are a Riding School that actively promotes inclusivity, we are not permitted or insured to accept riders who have complex learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities. It is important that you disclose any disability at the time of booking. We will then be able to advise you prior to you paying for the ride, whether or not we can safely accommodate your party.
If we are unable to support your needs, we have several local RDA centres that we can happily recommend.

Maximum Carrying Capacity:

Our horses weight limits are set according to their breed, conformation, age and ability of the rider.
We believe it is hugely important to be diligent when it comes to the welfare of our horses as they are what bring us so much joy. We are therefore strict when adhering to each horses individual maximum weight limits and ask for your honestly for the sake of our horses. Their welfare is at the heart of everything we do.
We reserve the right to cancel an advance booking (without a refund), if upon arrival, the rider is over the weight provided with the booking.

Cost of Keeping a Horse or Pony!

We regularly get asked how much it costs us to maintain the health and welfare of our horses.  We have worked out a rough average below. This can vary month to month or from horse to horse, but as an average ours cost us:

Set of shoes = £100. The life cycle of the shoe is between 4 - 6 weeks. Most of our horses are shod at 5 weeks.

Hay                = £80. Each horse eats a minimum of £80 per month in hay. This is higher during bad weather .

Hard Feed    = £60. Each horse eats a minimum of £60 per month in feed to ensure vitamin requirements are met.

Saddler         = £70. Each horses saddle fit is checked and possibly adjusted/flocked every 12 - 16 weeks.

Physio           = £60. Each horse receives a full assessment and programme to suit them every 12 weeks.

Dentistry      = £95. Every horse has routine dentistry at least every 6 months. Some will be every 3 months!

Vaccinations =£47. All horses onsite are vaccinated to prevent disease. This is repeated every 12 months.

Worming      = £15. All horses are on an egg counting system every 12 weeks, with wormers when required.

This obviously does not include any emergency vet visits or specialist veterinary or dentistry work.

Livery (the renting of the stable to keep your horse in) costs between £200 per month for a 'do it yourself' package through to £800+ if you require help looking after the horse! It is certainly some food for thought before purchasing a horse of your own!

About the Trekking

Idyllic Trekking For Beginners or Experienced Riders

Set in the beautiful Dorset countryside, a stones throw from the New Forest National Park, our treks set off into the vast Westmoors Plantation. With tracks that go on forever and stunning forest that homes a variety of deer and birds of prey, our forest rides really are stunning! We offer forest rides of 1 hour and 1.5 hours. The 1 hour rides are suitable for both beginners (even those that have never ridden!) or experienced riders and children 7yrs+. The 1.5 hour ride is also  suitable for any ability and children 12 years+ who do NOT require a leading rein. We also offer canter rides for experienced riders that hack regularly.

The parking is located onsite, come through the main gate and drive slowly down towards the right and park opposite the arena. The gate MUST be closed behind you!

A fee of £1 per vehicle is payable at Reception.

We can provide and help you to fit a riding hat free of charge! We have a large variety of sizes and provide a sanitiser spray! You can even rent a colourful hat cover if you'd like! We charge £2 per cover, payable at Reception. We ask that all clients wear trousers with sturdy, enclosed footwear. Hiking boots or wellingtons are fine (All of our stirrups have safety cages therefore any sturdy footwear will be suitable). We strongly advise that you wear gloves to protect your hands from the reins. We sell pimple stretch gloves for £3 per pair at Reception if required. You are asked to arrive 30 minutes before your rides start time. If you arrive later than requested you may miss your ride, this will not be refunded. Please wait at reception when you arrive and we will greet you and check you in. If you are early, do NOT wander around the yard, please wait on the benches at the office.

Our 1 hour rides operate Wednesday through to Sunday at 10am, 11.15am and 2.15pm.

The 1.5 hour rides are at 9.30am and 2pm.

During School holidays we also open every Tuesday.

Booking by telephone is essential. Texts are not monitored.

All bookings have a 48 hour cancellation policy, which must be done by telephone. This must be before Midday, 2 days prior to your ride. Any cancellations outside the 48 hours will forfeit the ride fee in full. Texts are not monitored.

You will not be able to ride with a rucksack so be prepared to leave it in a car or in the office. All possessions left in the office are entirely at your own risk and the yard cannot accept liability for lost or broken items. Cars are parked onsite entirely at your own risk.

We have a strict No Dogs policy.

We are an appointment only site. You cannot just 'pop in'. Please call to make a booking and we will be happy to help!

We operate a CCTV system onsite from the front gate, throughout the property.

Eastmoors Riding School holds a 5 Star Rated Licence by Dorset Council. This means that our standards of Horse Welfare, Health & Safety Practices and Staff Qualifications and Experience have far exceeded the standards required!! Our horses quite literally want for nothing!
